Caustic soda flakes for pulp and paper

How the industry uses caustic soda flakes

In pulp and paper, sodium hydroxide is part of the core cooking chemistry. In the kraft process it helps dissolve lignin and separate cellulose fibres; it is also used in bleaching sequences, de-inking of recycled paper and pH control across the mill.

  • Kraft and soda pulping: delignification of wood and non-wood fibres
  • Alkaline extraction stages in bleaching (E and EOP stages)
  • De-inking of recovered paper
  • pH adjustment of process water and stock preparation

What to specify when you buy

  • Assay 99% min — cooking liquor is made up to a target effective-alkali concentration; weak caustic throws off the charge.
  • Low chloride — chloride adds corrosivity to digesters and recovery equipment.
  • Reliable container-load supply — mills run continuously; plan stock with one FCL (about 25 MT) as the unit.

Recommended supply

Paper mills usually take 99% min flakes in 1 MT jumbo bags for handling efficiency. Ask about a standing shipping schedule if your consumption is steady.
